Tools to help you work through the assessment process Developing Systematic Processes (pdf) This document provides one example of how a program can develop a systematic process over time that attempts to level out the workload for continuous quality improvement of academic programs.

Sample Protocol for Pilot-Testing Survey Items (pdf) As I explain in my January 2008 Assessment101 article, piloting surveys is one of several steps that can be taken to help ensure they're effective.

Assessment Planning Matrix (doc) This is one example of how your assessment process can be documented and communicated to various constituents (faculty, students, accreditors, etc.).  Terms are defined and an example of a completed matrix is given.   The matrix is in Word format so you can download and modify for your own use.  Please note the embedded links which take you to definitions and websites.

Assessment Planning Flow Chart This is an interactive CD-ROM that provides a guide through the stages of assessment planning at the program and institutional levels.  In addition to the interactive Flow Chart, it contains assessment references that assist in providing a context for the assessment process.

Planning Process Self-Assessment (pdf) This is a self-assessment tool to help faculty determine progress in developing a continuous quality assurance process. It is designed as a part of the Assessment Planning Flow Chart©.

Assessment of student learning outcomes Assessment for Quality Assurance (pps) This PowerPoint slide show describes a model for quality assurance of student learning outcomes. It is one of the references included as a 'help' in the Assessment Planning Flow Chart©.

Baldrige Quality Criteria This article, "Business Excellence Assessments: How Baldrige-style assessments are used to drive improvement" provides a concise overview of the Baldrige.  Additional information can be found at the Baldrige homepage.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) This ISO webpage provides a comprehensive overview of the ISO quality processes.

Compare Baldrige with ISO This article compares the elements of the ISO quality management system (QMS) with the Baldrige business management system (BMS).

Six Sigma This is a Six Sigma guide written for both novice and experienced quality practitioners

Lean Manufacturing This article provides an overview of the fundamentals of lean manufacturing.

Assessment rubrics Assessment Rubrics This webpage is a nice primer on the basics of developing rubrics and has related references.  It was developed by InTech, a technology professional development program designed, implemented, and tested by the Educational Technology Center at Kennesaw State University.  There is also a helpful chapter on rubrics in the book, "Learner-Centered Assessment on College Campuses: Shifting the Focus from Teaching to Learning."
